Yesterday was just one of "those" days...ever have one? Happened to me.
It seemed like I couldn't keep my eyes open or focus on anything. I tried to concentrate on getting my project done for class and it hurt my brain. I got to the point where I didn't want to do much of anything and I had absolutely zero percent of creative inspiration.
For some reason, later that day, I was reminded of a journal I had put together a couple classes previous to this one. It was a collection of designs from magazines, sketches, etc. that inspired us. I took that out, blew off the cover of dust, and opened it up. It really helps to refer back to old projects, and to keep a collection of things that are inspiring for when you have one of "those days" aka a brain block.
Also, it is important that you reevaluate old projects in order to grow as a designer. Something that might have looked really good three months ago, doesn't always seem its best as we progress in our attempt to become professional designers.

Nice work Brittany. See we don't make you do those things just for fun. I am really glad you remembered the tools you learned back in the beginning. Now maybe you'll be a little more motivated to keep your creative journal always up to date.
ReplyDeleteI believe we have all had one of those days. At least i know i have many times but i have never tried to view inspiring work from others or my own but next time i will try that out and see how that works.
ReplyDeleteBrittany I rely on you to steal ideas from. Please do not have anymore of those days. @.@ j/k.
ReplyDeleteI keep a copy of everything I do as-well. We will always need that visual reference to fall back on in times of global brain outages.
Well for me i have a lot of that, specialy when u work on a printing press company and sometimes a project have to be done about in 3 days and should be looked awesome. But i never thought to recheck old projects. What make me more nervous when u get into a phase that there is no more creativity at ur head so what u do inthere when it's a period of weeks or months?
